Meet The Doctors

Dr. Nicole Rush earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Oregon in 1996 before receiving her Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University College of Optometry in 2001.

Dr. Rush is an owner of Coos Eye Centers, including Bandon Vision Center, Coquille Vision Center, Eye Center of Gold Beach, Eye Center of Brookings, and Coos Bay Vision Center. In addition to overseeing operations across all locations, she continues to provide patient care throughout the clinics, with a primary focus on the Bandon, Gold Beach, and Brookings offices. A respected leader in the profession, Dr. Rush served for 10 years on the Board of the Oregon Optometric Physicians Association and continues to help educate future optometrists as an Adjunct Clinical Professor at Pacific University College of Optometry.

Her professional achievements have been recognized both statewide and nationally. In 2013, she was featured on the cover of Women In Optometry magazine, and in 2020 she was named one of Vision Monday’s Most Influential Women in Optometry. In 2023, she was honored as Oregon Optometrist of the Year, and in 2024 she was recognized as the Great Western Council of Optometry’s Optometrist of the Year, representing optometrists across 11 western states.

Dr. Rush is passionate about ensuring that residents of Oregon’s coastal communities have access to exceptional eye care close to home. She is committed to advancing the profession of optometry while providing personalized, high-quality care to patients of all ages. Dr. Rush and her husband, Jonathan, recently returned to their hometown of Gold Beach, where they enjoy living along the Rogue River. Dr. Nicole also has two daughters, Isabella and Lyvia, both of whom are pursuing careers in the healthcare field.

Dr. Morgan Grove graduated with distinction from Pacific University College of Optometry in 2016. She received her bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Oregon in 2012. She is an active member of the Oregon Optometric Physicians Association, having served on the Young OD Membership Committee, the Advocacy Committee as Legislative Co-Chair, and is currently a director on the OOPA Board. In 2023, Dr Grove won the OOPA Young OD of the Year Award. She currently sees patients at the Eye Center of Gold Beach. She is a co-owner of the eye clinics along with her business partner, Dr. Nicole Rush. 

Dr. Grove grew up in Myrtle Point and returned to the south coast to practice after finishing school. She resides in Gold Beach, where she is a member of Rotary and a board member for the Curry Public Library Foundation. She enjoys yoga, reading, and hiking. She lives with her husband, Nick, and daughter, Talula, as well as their two cats, Sugaree and Mochi, and dog Cora. Together they enjoy being outdoors, traveling, cooking, and music.

Dr. Ashley Calvert earned her Bachelor’s in Vision Science in 2016 and her Doctorate of Optometry in 2019, both from Pacific University. Before joining Coos Eye Centers on the southern Oregon coast, she practiced optometry for three years on the northern coast near her hometown.

Dr. Calvert is dedicated to ensuring her patients see and feel their best, with a special interest in ocular disease and contact lenses. She practices mostly at our Coos Bay location where she offers specialty dry eye treatments. She is also passionate about advocating for her profession and serves as the legislative committee chair for the Oregon Optometric Physicians Association (OOPA). She was honored by OOPA as Young OD of the Year in 2026. 

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Calvert enjoys traveling and camping with her husband Brook, son Baker, and dog Ruby. She loves spending time outside gardening and going to the beach. 

Dr. Shaina Sullivan is passionate about helping patients achieve and maintain healthy vision through personalized, comprehensive eye care. She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University College of Optometry in 2019 after completing her undergraduate studies at Oregon State University in 2012.

Dr. Sullivan has special interests in ocular disease management and contact lenses, and she enjoys working closely with patients to find solutions that best fit their visual needs and lifestyle. She is committed to staying current with the latest advancements in optometry to provide the highest quality care for patients of all ages.

An active leader in the optometric community, Dr. Sullivan is a member of the American Optometric Association and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Oregon Optometric Physicians Association. In recognition of her dedication to the profession, she was honored with the Young OD of the Year Award in 2021. During optometry school, she also received the Tole Greenstein Award for Exceptional Performance in the Areas of Vision Therapy and Pediatric Vision.

Outside the office, Dr. Sullivan enjoys spending time with her family and embracing the outdoors. Whether she’s bowling, golfing, camping, or cheering on her favorite sports teams, she loves staying active and connected with her community. At home, life is busy and fun with her son, JJ, three dogs, and many farm animals.

Dr. Gurholt joined our practice in 2019 from Boulder, CO, bringing over 30 years of eye care experience.  She is licensed in Oregon and California to diagnose, treat, and manage ocular conditions.  She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Oregon Optometric Physicians Association.

Raised in North Dakota, she began working as an optometric assistant at the age of 18.   She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of North Dakota and earned her doctorate from Pacific University in 1997.  She spent 20 years in the Denver area, owning Boulder Vision Center and providing compensation and pension exams for Veterans Affairs.

Dr. Gurholt endeavors to provide eye care with a preventive approach, helping patients reach their vision and wellness goals.

She enjoys exploring the outdoors with her dog and using her sewing and quilting talents with her church group.

Dr. Walker received his Doctor of Optometry from the Pacific University College of Optometry in 1999.  He has been very active with various optometric associations and is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Oregon, Washington & Montana Optometric Physicians Associations, and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.

Dr. Walker completed six years on the Oregon Board of Optometry after being appointed by the Oregon Governor. He is the 1999 recipient of the Oregon Optometric Physicians Association Student of the Year, the 2005 recipient of the “Oregon Young OD of the Year”, and the 2018 “Oregon OD of the Year,” in addition to numerous other awards and honors. Dr. Walker is past President of the South Western Oregon Optometric Society and served as the 2010-2011 President of the Oregon Optometric Physicians Association.

Dr. Walker has a long history of community involvement as past chairman for the Brookings/Harbor Chamber of Commerce (2009-2010), past President of the Rotary Club of Brookings-Harbor (2010-2011), and director of the Curry Health Foundation (2005-2008). Dr. Walker provides additional expertise to the Eye Centers of Gold Beach and Brookings in the co-management of Diabetic Retinopathy and Glaucoma. 

Dr. Walker enjoys travelling the world with his wife, Lana.  Among various destinations, they visit their son, Zack, in Austin, TX, and their daughter Abby in Melbourne, Australia! 

Dr. Niespodzany joins our clinic monthly from Pacific ClearVision Institute in Eugene, Oregon.  Dr. Niespodzany graduated with his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, specializing in Ophthalmology.  

Dr. Eric, as most of his patients call him, is a board-certified ophthalmologist; specializing in cataracts, cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery. 

Dr. Eric, brings his  passion in eye care to our clinics while performing cataract surgeries, and corneal procedures for our patients locally. In his spare time he likes to get out in nature, and travel and hike.
